Commercial team

Jeremy joined the London Borough of Waltham Forest in 1983 as an administration trainee. He started in the Legal Services team in 1984 and was admitted as a solicitor in 1993. He has worked primarily in the commercial areas, specialising first in property law and then in contracts and procurement. These areas remain his current areas of practice alongside local government law and governance.

Jeremy holds the Law Society Diploma in Local Government Law.

Jo qualified as a Solicitor in 2007 and gained her LLB degree at Queen Mary, University of London. She joined London Borough of Waltham Forest in July 2011 and manages the Property & Planning Team. She holds the Law Society Diploma in Local Government Law.

Jo advises on all aspects of planning law and works on major site section 106 agreements for complex housing led regeneration schemes with detailed viability provisions. She also advises planning and licensing committees and works on highway agreements, planning enforcement cases and stopping up orders.

Sue has a full range of commercial property experience ranging from high value acquisitions and disposals to multi-let offices. Sue is experienced in advising on commercial and residential development schemes from inception to completion.

This includes compulsory purchase work up to, and post, Inquiry, as well as drafting and advising on complex s106 planning development agreements.

Donya was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors on 15th April 2009, after completing her Training Contract in private practice. She joined Waltham Forest as a child protection solicitor in July 2013 and then moved to the commercial law team in November 2014.

Donya advises on Planning, Highways, Licensing and Property matters.

Mohsina trained at Milton Keynes Council, qualifying in January 2009, and has specialised in contracts and procurement ever since.

She has worked on an array of complex and high profile commercial matters since joining the London Borough of Waltham Forest in December 2013.

Sahima is a commercial solicitor and has expertise in working in a wide variety of commercial matters associated with local authorities and advising on procurement matters.

In the past, Sahima was involved in Olympic sponsorship deals, the construction of the Ruckholt Footbridge, as well as working on Holland Mews and Albany Road affordable housing. Currently, she is assisting with the implementation of electric vehicle charge points in the borough and the Making Places project.

Ona joined the team as a trainee solicitor in September 2017, working in general civil litigation, housing, prosecutions and employment law. Prior to this, Ona worked as a paralegal in the Litigation and Public Law team and the Family team, before completing the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at BPP Law School.

Ona has experience of working in the private sector, both nationally and internationally, as a legal assistant and intern, in immigration, employment and criminal law. Additionally, Ona is an active member of the Law Society’s Junior Lawyer Division. Ona will complete her legal training with us in September 2019.

Francelia commenced work in local government in 1995. She started as an administration assistant, then worked as a legal secretary, then applied for the position of a team co-ordinator responsible for the supervision of administration staff. After working in legal for many years, Francelia decided to study law in more detail and to gain more experience.

She now provides support to a team of lawyers as a paralegal, and assists with the preparation of cases. Francelia has experience in property, contracts, childcare and employment law and is a 'super user' for the case management system.

Jay works in the commercial law team, dealing with contracts for a wide range of matters as well as advising on procurement compliance.

Previously, Jay worked as a family lawyer for several years predominantly in relation to child protection cases within public law proceedings but also has a background in divorce, ancillary relief and injunction proceedings during his training in private practice. Jay has also undertaken advocacy before magistrates, district and circuit judges at a number of family courts.

Jade gained her law degree at City University London, and completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law. Jade worked as a family law paralegal at a number of private law firms.

Jade joined the London Borough of Waltham Forest in September 2016, as a paralegal in the Commercial Law team, where she gained knowledge and experience in contracts. Jade will complete her legal training with us in September 2019.

Shirley qualified as a solicitor in private practise, specialising in litigation. She has undertaken advocacy before Magistrates, District and Circuit Judges, Masters and Chancery Division Judges. She later moved to the public sector and has worked for a number of Local Authority legal teams, specialising in Contracts and Procurement.

Jane has worked as a solicitor in local government since 1993 in county councils and unitary authorities, beginning as a social care solicitor then adding education and employment litigation, and now advises in contract and procurement law.
